Sport Management
Winthrop University offers an
interdisciplinary Sport Management degree, an exciting program that
will benefit students who have an interest in the ever-growing
business of sport. This joint venture between the Department of
Health and Physical Education in the Richard W. Riley College of
Education and the College of Business Administration provides a
program that effectively combines the two disciplines. Students
enrolled in the program pursue the Bachelor of Science degree in Sport
Management.

estimated to be a $324 billion business, ranking in the top 25 of all
industries by U.S. gross product.

Charlotte
(only minutes north of Winthrop) is home to a number of professional
sport teams, including the NFL's Carolina Panthers, the NBA's Charlotte
Bobcats, the WNBA's Charlotte Sting, AAA baseball's International League
Charlotte Knights, the East Coast Hockey League's Charlotte Checkers,
and
other minor-league teams.

Located
only 15 minutes north of Winthrop University are Knights Stadium, home
of AAA baseball International League Charlotte Knights, and the Bobcats'
practices facility, which is used by the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats and the WNBA's Charlotte Sting.

Sport
venues in the Charlotte metropolitan region include Bank of America Stadium,
Charlotte Coliseum, Knights Stadium, Lowe's Motor Speedway, Independence
Arena, Memorial Stadium, and Winthrop Coliseum.

estimates are that more than 35,000 South Carolinians will be working
within the sports industry by 2005

Winthrop's
sport management program is the only one of its kind in the Charlotte
metropolitan region, and one of only two in the state of South Carolina.
