Degree Programs

MAT Program

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is designed to prepare individuals who are seeking initial licensure to be a classroom teacher. Students may pick one of the following areas of licensure at the middle or high school level: biology, business/marketing, English, family and consumer sciences, French, mathematics, Spanish, social studies or theatre; or students may pick one of the following areas for certification in grades K-12: art, dance, music or physical education.

The MAT curriculum covers a variety of subjects from professional core courses to courses specific to the student’s content area. Acquired competencies emphasized in this program will enable graduates to assume leadership roles in their classrooms, departments and schools.

Educational Leadership

Graduate study in educational leadership leads to a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in educational leadership. The M.Ed. degree requires completion of at least 42 semester hours of approved graduate-level work. The program prepares students to work as elementary and secondary school principals.
