FrontPage Expressions Web Assignment

The Software used to be called Front Page, but it is now called Expressions Web. I am leaving the handouts for both versions up here because many of you may have access to the older software. You can still use Front Page on Winthrop Web Sites, but Expressions Web is what is installed in the Lab.

If you have worked with Expressions Web in another class you can do this assignment or you can opt for different web-publishing assignment. See me for details.

Many school districts, schools and individual teachers have websites.  These websites can be used to communicate with the community, parents and students.  Often lunch menus, PTO meeting dates, homework and examples of student work are posted.  In addition, students can create websites on particular subjects or post their own work for others to see.

In EDUC602, you will create a website. This website is intended to teach you the basic skills you need to create and manage a website in the classroom. While you will learn how to do some things, the only way you will ever be good at this is to continue to work on it after the class is over. On every page you should have a small menu to link you to every other page. Your pages should have pictures, both background and others, and should be formatted to make them look as good as you can make them. All of the pages you create for this class must be free of offensive material and promote positive messages. Here are the pages and the names of the pages that your site must consist of:

default.htm
This is the main page of your website. You will link to everything off of this page.

602aboutme.htm
This page tells us something about you. You may put a picture of yourself here. Think of this page as an introduction of yourself to the students and parents you will ultimately work with.

602links.htm
This page will have five external links. They should relate to a SC or NC Curriculum Standard(s). These five links should be annotated, meaning that you provide a short description of it. They may be sites that would be appropriate for students or teachers. These are sites that you are personally recommending, so think about what you are doing. Provide the name of the website, the URL and a brief description of what is on the site.

602worksample.htm
This is a table of information that shows what you have done in this class. You should post all work including but not limited to your digital video(s), your scavenger hunt, your podcast, your Photoshopped image, your PowerPoint presentations, your movies, your word clouds and your Web 2.0 project.

602references.htm
This page will provide links to the places where you got your pictures from. Do not list every picture, but do something like the following:

  1. The Free Graphics Archive: http://www.ausmall.com.au/freegraf/freegrfa.htm
  2. Boogie Jack: http://boogiejack.com
  3. CNN: http://cnn.com

Working at home: You may be able to download a free trial of Expression Web to use at home. Note that this trial is time sensitive. It used to be 45 days, but it may be less now. The free download works only once. See the site below for more details.

Here is how I will grade the site.
