Cool Websites. There are literally 1000's of them. Finding them is not easy, being surprised by them is common. I cannot show you all of them, or discuss them all with you. Therefore, we will work together to see and do as much as we can.
Lisa Harris has developed an excellent Internet Tour that we will use to see as much of the Internet as we can.
We will break into five groups. Each group will choose a section of the Internet Tour and research it for the whole class.
- Research A- Creating Your Own Research Activities
- Research B- Locating Sites, Subject Specific Sites and Multicultural Resources
- Virtual Field Trips and Quests
- Collaborative Projects and Publishing
In your groups you will break down the work further. You will decide who is looking at which websites. As a group you will spend about 30 minutes looking at your websites and about 30 minutes discussing the websites. Collectively you will write a summary of your section to share with the class. You will write it up, in no more than 500 words, and post it to one of your websites. Email me the link and I will collect everybody's information and post it to our class website for everyone to read. It will be linked from the Useful Links and handouts page. Here are questions your reports should answer:
- Define your topic in a manner that you can share with the class. Be prepared to describe to us what educational function and value the topic serves. Use the questions in the Internet Tour as a guide. You do not have to write down an answer to each question.
- Find one or two sites that best illustrate your topic.
- Describe how you could use this type of site at different age levels (early childhood, elementary, secondary).
- Would you use this type of site for individual activities, group activities, whole class activities or all of the above. Explain how.
- As a team, develop a plan for how you will write up what your topic is, and how you answered the questions above about your topic. Remember to link at least two examples.
