Digital Video Assignment


In this assignment we are looking again at some issues from Universal Designs for Learning, Constructivist learning, and the use of technology. We will be using some new technologies such as  the Digital Video Camera, microphones, iBook laptops and thumbdrives. On the theoretical side we will be revisiting Multiple Ways to Express Knowledge, Multiple ways to engage students, project-based learning, cooperative learning, multimedia, hypermedia and how to use these techniques to meet curriculum standards. There are many techniques to learn, and many issues to consider in this assignment. We will be introducing them and covering them in class as needed.

Directions: In groups, pick a topic and create a digital video that illustrates/ explains/ parodies one issue related to technology integration
(Group assignment that counts in participation grade)

1.  Pick a topic.  Choose your topic well: it might be your research project as well. Possible topics include:

    Choose any of the issues on page 24 of your text book, or any of the trends on page 25. Such issues might include, but would not be limited to:

    1. The Digital Divide
    2. Online predators
    3. Emerging Technologies
    4. Copyright
    5. Online learning for k-12 classes
    6. Digital Natives/Digital Immigrants
    7. Any other topic you can choose, articulate, and get approved by me. You can expand your video project and use it in your research project as well.

    Additionally, you could choose one of these as well:

    Cell phones in the classroom
    What are current policies for use of cell phones? Do you agree with them? How should teachers (at any level) deal with phones in the classroom?

    Social Networking (Facebook/My Space) benefits and problems
    What do people think about these sites? Do they use them? Are they concerned about how people might use their information? Do they have any personal experiences to share about these issues?  

2.  Research your topic.

3.  Plan your movie sequence, location, props, etc.

4.  Shoot your video.

5.  Edit your video.

6.  Export your video.  Put your completed video on tshare and on your website.

Required Components of the Movie (Worth 50 points)

Your movie should be free of offensive material and representative of positive ideas that could be shown to a P-12 audience. If not, your movie will receive a grade of 0.

The film should be between one and three minutes.
It must include a title.
It must include credits.
It must use live audio
