5 Ways to Integrate Technology in to Your Internship

Biology (9-12)

Ask your mentor teacher or media specialist what types of technology are available in the school and how you go about accessing them.  For example, can you check out digital cameras or a projector from the media specialist?  Second, read your school’s Acceptable Use Policy and find out if all the students in your class have permission to go online.

Teachers Using Technology in Classrooms

1.    Use a WebQuest that has already been developed to teach a topic.

            2.    If you are lucky enough to be in a classroom with a digital whiteboard, ask your mentor teacher how to use it!

            3.    Create a PowerPoint Presentation to teach a topic.

            4.    Use the internet to look up interesting facts about the subject you are teaching.

Students Using Technology in Classrooms

1.      The students can do an animal dissection on the computer.  They have software and sites that are available for this process.

2.   Have students develop a nutrition program and put it into a spreadsheet.

            For example:

Have them record what they eat

Calories

Exercise program

Weight

Then they can graph all their data.

  1. Have students do an experiment.  They can input all of their data into spreadsheets to create graphs.  Have the students present their experiments to class by using a multimedia presentation.

  1. Have students go on a virtual tour of a different country.  Look at all the different kinds a species live in that country.  Have them do research on that country.

Have them research:

            Animals

            Climate

Then have them show how the climate affects the animals and also how people affect the animals.  Also have them look at extinct animals and how climate and people may have affected them.  They can then put all of their findings into a Power Point presentation.  They can also make a class website about their findings.

  1. Have students do an experiment with the weather.  Have the students look up the weather everyday on the computer.  Have them develop a spreadsheet to put heir findings in.  Then after a week or two of looking at the weather, see if the students can start predicting the weather.  Have the students, input their predictions into the spreadsheet then check the next day to see if they were right.  They can also keep track of the lows, highs and averages.  Look at the rainfall and the average rainfall.  There is so much the students can do with this.
