TLC101: Professional Development for Faculty

Description
Teacher education faculty self-select a technology project related to the courses they teach and are assigned a student tutor to assist them with their project.  Student tutors teach teacher education faculty technology skills necessary for the completion of their project.   Training sessions are one-on-one and are scheduled at the convenience of the faculty member and the tutor.

Projects
Projects can have one of two foci:

  • faculty modeling teaching with technology (ex.using WebCT to augment class instruction, using FrontPage to create class websites)
  • designing a student project requiring technology use (ex. evaluating educational software, creating digital portfolios, using digital cameras and camcorders to teach specific physical education skills).

Student Tutors

Student tutors work with three to four faculty members who have similar

technology interests for two hours a week per professor.  Student tutors are

responsible for scheduling meetings with their assigned faculty and maintaining

a timesheet and journal.  Tutors meet with the project directors at least once a

month.

Students who have completed the required introductory technology course

are eligible to be TLC Tutors.  Students must also receive a faculty

recommendation and complete an interview.
