Miss Ruby's School
Information

For many years Miss Ruby's School was the only educational facility available to African-American children living on Pawley's Island, SC.  Miss Ruby's school was formed about 1902.  The school was named Holy Cross-Faith Memorial School.  After the original structure burned, a replacement was built at the current location around 1930.  Ruby Middleton Forsythe (Miss Ruby) began teaching at the school around 1937.  She taught at this school for more than half a century (1937-1991).

Carolyn Wallace became the headmistress of the school upon the retirement of Miss Ruby.  She served in this capacity until the closing of the school in May of 2000.
