In this assignment we are looking at some issues from Universal Designs for Learning, Constructivist learning, and the use of technology. The technology we will be using is a combination of technologies we have worked with already, such as the Digital Camera, and the Internet. We will be using some new technologies as well such as Claymation kits, laptops and iMovie. On the theoretical side we will be revisiting Multiple Ways to Express Knowledge, Multiple ways to engage students, project-based learning, cooperative learning, and how to use these techniques to meet curriculum standards.

There are many techniques to learn, and many issues to consider in this assignment. We will be introducing them and covering them in class as needed. However, the assignment is quite simple, and can be completed in five steps:

  1. Identify two SC state curriculum standards or group of standards from two different subject areas for your group's grade level;
  2. Identify one NETS-S standard;
  3. Research your topic using at least two web-sites;
  4. Create a claymation movie that is a representative demonstration of competence in the SC state standards that a student in your area might produce;
  5. Write an activity to support your project and an accompanying Rubric to assess it;
  6. Post the activity, the Rubric and the final project to your Technology Work Sample page.

Activity Rubric
The Claymation write up will be turned in as part of your website so it should be posted in your web space and linked from worksample.htm. It is worth 50 points.

Product Rubric
The Claymation movie is worth 50 points and will be turned in on the laptop your group is working with.

When you put your claymation on your web page, it should look something like this:

Other Useful Information

We are using a product from a company called Tech4Learning to do our claymation. You can see samples of student products at their website on the sample pages:

They also list project ideas at http://www.tech4learning.com/claykit/projects.html.  If you base your activity on one of these ideas, please be sure to site your source in your activity plan.

We also have a "home-grown" project created At Winthrop by Julianne Haley and Keoni Everington. Their movie on the germination of a seed is included below along with a set of tips for working with clay and doing your movie.
