Microsoft Works Database Activity

 

  1. Open Microsoft Works Database
  2. Select Blank Database from the Microsoft Works Database window.

 

 

  1. Type in the name Cereal for the field in the box next to Field name.

 

 

 

  1. Select General for fields that are not numeric such as Cereal Name.




     
  2. Click Add to complete this field and to add the next field.

 

 

  1. Name the next field Fat (g).  For fields with numeric data, you can select Number for more precision.

 





 

 

  1. Select the number of decimal places you wish to display, in this case it is set to 0.

 

 

  1. Add fields for Carbs (g), Calories Per Serving, Sodium, Cholesterol, Fiber, Protein and Sugar.
  2. Click Done, when you are finished creating fields for your database.

 

 



 

  1. Your fields have now been labeled.

 

 

  1. Use the xeroxed nutrition labels to type the data into each corresponding field.  The box below is an example.  Your data will look different.

 

 

  1. In order answer the questions, use the sort feature of MS Works Database.  To sort your data, click on Record and then Sort Records.

 


 

 

  1. Under Sort by, select the field you wish to sort, in this case Carbs.

 

 

  1. Select Ascending for least to greatest (or Descending for greatest to least), and click OK.

 

 

  1. The Cereals have now been sorted by those with the least Carbohydrates at the top and the greatest at the bottom. This could be reversed if Descending had been chosen instead.
