5 Ways to Integrate Technology in to Your Internship
Special Education Mild Disabilities (K-12)
Ask your mentor teacher or media specialist what types of technology are available in the school and how you go about accessing them. For example, can you check out digital cameras or a projector from the media specialist? Second, read your school’s Acceptable Use Policy and find out if all the students in your class have permission to go online.
Teachers Using Technology in Classrooms
1. Create a graphic organizer for
a concept in Word or Inspiration. Ask your mentor teacher or the media
specialist if Inspiration is available in your school.
2. Use a WebQuest that has already been developed to teach a topic.
3. If you are lucky enough to be in a classroom with a digital whiteboard, ask your mentor teacher how to use it!
4. Create a PowerPoint Presentation to teach a topic.
5. Use the internet to look up interesting facts about the subject you are teaching.
Students Using Technology in Classrooms
1. Use Kid Pix and have them draw what they are studying in class. Show students the different tools that they can use in Kid Pix. They can also type in this program.
2. Using a word processing program or even Kid Pix, the students could keep a daily journal on the computer by typing. The teacher could even write out what the students wanted to put into their journal. The students can then type it in. This can help the students with letter recognition and fine motor skills.
3. Through email, have the students interact with other students in another school, county, state, or even country. This allows them to have contact with other students that may not know they have a disability. This can help with their communication skills.
4. Use a multimedia application to have the students do a project. This way they can use their strengths, such a drawing, to complete the project. The students can then show other students in the class, show parents, or even post the project on the web. Research has shown that students with disabilities perform well with multimedia applications
5. Take students on a virtual tour of a museum or other countries around the world. This will allow the students to see outside of their environment.
