EARLY CHILDHOOD PK-3

ELEMENTARY 2-6

MIDDLE 5-8

SECONDARY 9-12

Background Clearance

South Carolina law requires that all individuals enrolled in a teacher education program in South Carolina must undergo a fingerprint check prior to student teaching.

PLT Requirement

The Principles of Learning and Teaching exam (PLT) is a requirement for South Carolina initial certification (as of July 1, 2006).  All students who complete a teacher education program must pass the PLT before the initial certificate can be issued. 

Currently required PRAXIS II exams are listed on the South Carolina Department of Education’s website:  www.scteachers.org/cert/exam.cfm

Note:  PRAXIS II scores, including PLT scores, are reported approximately six weeks after the tests are taken.
