Student Academic Services

Student Academic Services is the academic hub for all students in the Richard W. Riley College of Education.  Dr. Kelly M. Costner, Director, is assisted by Ms. Rebecca O. Malambri, Advisement Coordinator; Ms. Dia Hablutzel, Field Placement Coordinator; and Ms. Suzy Baldwin, Teacher Certification Specialist.  The entire office is supported by Ms. Elaine Wild, Administrative Specialist.  This office provides services and information for all students who want to become teachers.

Student Academic Services is located at 144 Withers in the Richard W. Riley College of Education.  This office is responsible for assisting students in their planning and academic needs.  Some of the main responsibilities of Student Academic Services are to communicate with all College of Education students by producing a calendar of important dates at the beginning of each semester, and maintaining all current information related to the Teacher Education Program on bulletin boards and the video bulletin board housed in Withers.

Student Academic Services also maintains data on students in the Teacher Education Program, works with those students seeking admission to the Teacher Education Program, coordinates the implementation of ADEPT as outlined by state legislation, handles all field placements for the more than 600 students who are placed in agencies and public school environments each semester, coordinates all advising for College of Education students, and assists with certification paperwork for those applying for certification in South Carolina and in other states.

An additional PRAXIS II testing opportunity will be available on the Winthrop campus on Saturday, July 26, 2008 in Kinard.  Please visit www.ets.org to register.

  • Important PRAXIS information

PRAXIS “standby” registration (which allowed potential test-takers to show up

unannounced hoping for an empty seat) no longer exists.  Instead, potential test-takers are required to complete the “emergency registration” process, which begins at the close of late registration and ends on the Friday of the week prior to the test date.  In other words, anyone who wants to take the test MUST be registered a week and a day ahead of the test!
