Licensure Areas

The Richard W. Riley College of Education (COE) offers undergraduate degree programs that lead to licensure in the following areas: 

Early Childhood Education
  Elementary Education
  Middle Level Education
  Physical Education
  Special Education (Mild Disabilities and Severe Disabilities)

In addition, the COE works collaboratively with the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the College of Arts and Sciences to offer approved teacher education programs in the following licensure areas:

Art
  Dance
  English
  Modern Languages (French and Spanish)
  Mathematics
  Music Education (Choral and Instrumental)
  Science (Biology)
  Social Studies (History and Political Science)
  Theatre

At the graduate level, through the Master of Arts in Teaching program (MAT), students may gain initial licensure in the following areas: 

Art
  English
  Family and Consumer Sciences
  Business/Marketing
  Modern Languages (French and Spanish)
  Mathematics
  Music Education
  Biology
  Social Studies
  Physical Education

For individuals who already possess a teaching certificate, Master of Education (MEd) programs are available in Middle Level Education, Reading, Curriculum and Instruction, Physical Education, Special Education, Counseling and Development, and Educational Leadership.
