General Information

Title: Globe Raider: Part I
Subject Area: Spanish
Grade Level: 4th and 5th
Teacher: Michelle Arden
School: Fort Mill Elementary

Summary of Lesson:    In the first lesson of a country-study unit, the students 
will use the Internet and other resources to gather information about a Spanish 
speaking country.  In following lessons, the students will use this information to 
design, create and present PowerPoint slide shows about their country.

Lesson Details

Objectives: 
TSWBAT: Use multiple resources, including the Internet to identify basic 
information about a Spanish speaking country.

TSWBAT: Use the Internet to find and print a map of their assigned country.

Setting: 1 computer classroom – 40 minute Related Arts class

Procedures:    Time:

Students are assigned to groups of 5 and given a Spanish 
speaking country to research.  They will take turns reading aloud
to their groups the project information and ask questions.

Assign an area of the room for each country and place 
encyclopedias, books, and periodicals at the tables.

Explain to students that they will use these resources to 
complete the Globe Raider sheet that they have been given.  
They will work on this activity while waiting to go to the 
computer.

On a rotating schedule, one group at a time will go to the 
computer to complete a treasure hunt about their country.  

When finished with the computer, they will return to their table 
and continue to work on the Globe Raider sheet.

Total Time: 3 periods of 40 min. each


Technology Specific Activity/Project Description:

The computer activity consists of using the Internet to complete the attached 
Treasure Hunt.  Each group member is given specific tasks to complete
individually as well as questions for the group to complete together.

Assessment:  Student participation is assessed through the completion of the 
graphic organizer and treasure hunt. 

Foreign Language Standards: 3.1, 3.2, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2

Resources: encyclopedias, books and periodicals for each country
