Title:  Graphing

Summary of Lesson:   Students will create graphs based on SC climatology information.
Lesson Details
Objectives: 
  1. The student will be able to read and interpret information in a chart.
  2. The student will be able to construct a graph from information in a chart.
Setting: Computer Lab and Multiple Computer Classroom
Procedures: 
  1. Introduction of project and unit.
  2. Classroom instruction on various graphs (Use textbook(s) – Math , SS, or Reading -  as guide or foundation.)
  3. Model for students the construction of line graphs, bar graphs, and pie graphs. Provide a tutorial for students to practice skills. Classroom or lab.
  4. Collect data from specified sites. Print or record information for future reference. May be done in classroom or lab.
  5. Enter data into spreadsheet.
  6. Create appropriate graph. Print out.
  7. Students will share their publications with classmates, explaining and interpreting the information.
Technology 
Specific Activity:
  1. The student will use the Internet to find climatological information for South Carolina.
  2. The student will learn how to create a spreadsheet using Microsoft Works or Excel.
  3. The student will publish 2 graphs.
Assessment:  The student will be graded based on a checklist or rubric.  See one example below.

Technology Skills
Student creates a spreadsheet with at least 4 rows and columns.
Student employs data to create at least 2 types of graphs.

Math Skills
The student correctly represents data in a graph.
The student correctly labels x and y-axis and includes a title.
The student reads and interprets charts and graphs correctly.
