|
|
| Objectives: |
The student will be able to help the teacher:
- Locate their school on the map
- Navigate from point A to point B on a map
|
|
|
| Setting: |
Classroom
and computer lab |
|
|
| Procedures: |
- Students will be introduced to maps in the classroom.
- Using
the multimedia projector and Mapquest, the teacher will pull up map using the
school address. Be sure and do this beforehand and have it saved; you may have
to fiddle around with the zoom and re-centering to get the map you want. I live
in FM, so I use school as point A and my house as point B. So I want a map
that shows both, with recognizable street names.
- When I get what I want, I
save it on Mapquest and print it.
- I make copies for the kids to have in their
hands as we do this.
- First we locate our school on the map (marked by a red
star).
- Then I show them where I live.
- Together we use our directional skills
to get me to school.
- Then we do it again and the students work in pairs to
mark the route on their maps with a highlighter.
